It’s been a long time since I’ve updated this blog! No performances to report until now. Traci and I packed up all our belongings in early August and drove across the country to our new home, Portland. For our first weekend on the West Coast, we headed up to Seattle to attend the Regional Taiko Gathering at the University of Washington. It was great catching up with and meeting a whole bunch of NW taiko players.
We met Toru and reconnected with Michelle (of Portland Taiko), and afterwards, we started to visit with the taiko group, attending rehearsals and participating as best we could. It’s been a great experience and while we won’t be participating in their October concert, we’ll be playing with them for a collaboration performance this Friday.
Portland Taiko will be performing one piece, conceived by Claudia Meza in collaboration with ASSS. It’s part of a larger evening called Drum Machine, one of the final concerts at the Time-Based Art (TBA) Festival sponsored by the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA).
